Re: Beware of Spencer's Mountain Aussies in MA

Good advice and thank you for sharing your experience. It is always good to remind folks that reputable breeders welcome people, encourage them and always perform the basic health clearances (hips, eyes and elbows, DNA screening for the primary diseases such as hereditary cataracts and the multi-dru...

Re: Grooming/Coat Issues

That looks like something going on nutritionally and not just an average coat shed. Check the bloodwork for other issues, also ask your vet if there may be some contradiction with the medications used to treat the seizures. Make sure that your vet has investigated the cause of the seizures and elimi...

Re: Upset stomach after using Trifexis on a Mini

Vomiting can be one of the side effects. I would discontinue use, let the vet and manufacturer know and find an alternative. Trifexis should not be given to any intact animals as there is some link to it causing reproductive issues.

Re: How to effectively clean up messy poop in pants hair

I guess I am blessed with clean dogs because I have some heavily coated dogs and even when they do have the occasional bout of loose stool, they don't get so messy that I can't simply rinse it out with a hose and some wipes. You can clip the area under their tail, but it looks odd when done to my ey...

Re: SHALAKO AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERDS

About three and a half years ago, we welcomed a beautiful litter to the world, celebrated here on Aussie Board and known as the Fuzzy Cherries. That litter grew up and became a lovely group of champions and companions we were so proud of. https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xlp1/v/t1.0-9/12...

Re: Genetics question

Short answer is no. Merle is not a disease it is a color pattern. The eye defects and hearing issues related to merling occur when two copies of the merle gene suppress the development of pigment. Pigment cells known as melanocytes are necessary to develop many of the central nervous system processe...

I see an OFA hip rating on the dam (the sire's page wouldn't load) but no elbow rating and no mention of DNA results?

Re: Biking

I bike my dogs for conditioning purposes for show and trial. I set a mild pace, even if they want to pull me along and make them take a steady, easy trot. I don't try to bike my dogs for mileage, but for exercise, so we limit our rides to about 2 miles in warm weather, 4 in cooler times. If their to...

Re: Biking

The advice I have to offer is before doing any sort of exercise like biking or jogging with dogs is to make sure they don't have any orthopedic issues such as hip or elbow dysplasia. The only way to diagnose these diseases is through radiographs and submission to a qualified organization (your avera...

Re: Hunting/retrieving

It isn't really a breed intended as a gun dog, many Aussies have sound sensitivity issues as well as lack the soft mouth required by a good Retriever. They can have a nice prey drive and a strong scent/hunting drive in some lines, but overall the combination of drives and instinct that makes a reall...
