Question about the CKC Altered program

Postby Shelly Hollen » Sun Oct 19, 2008 8:32 pm

First let me say congrats to Kelly St Jacques and CKC CH. Shalako's Smooth Sailing on his Altered WD/BOB win at the CNASA National Specialty this weekend!!

Now my question: Are the Altered classes considered regular classes and if so, how was Skipper eligible to compete back in classes for Best Male when he is already a CKC champion? I am thoroughly confused!

I wonder if an error was made and she should have entered him as an Alt-Special, it sounds like he was entered as a class altered male if he was able to get WD?

Oh wait, there is some sort of niggling in my brain, I think it is broken down simply to males and females, then the best male and the best female compete against each other for Alt-BOB. No Alt-specials...so there are always only ever two dogs competing for BOB, the WD and WB, regardless of if they are CH or not.

I tried to look it up on teh CKC site, but I have to login to get the rule book, and I don't have my membership # handy. Sorry!

okay... still confused. I wrote the ASCA Altered program so those rules are stuck in my brain. Once a dog is finished as a champion, be it from intact or altered, it remains a champion and the only class it is eligible to compete in is Breed regardless of competition numbers.

That is correct if he is a CKC Ch and he is only eligable to compete in Breed... But was the specialty not an ASCA sanctioned show?? So if his win was ASCA and he is not an ASCA Ch he would still be a class dog! CKC has no altered classes! (I could be wrong!)

Yup.. I am wrong...

So Altered class is available for a specialty only... The classes are for any altered dog over 6 mths.. Winners altered male/Female : one award each sex
Reserve winners altered male/female: 2nd place.. Best altered in Breed: one only, confined to winners altered male/female only...

It looks like the altered class is just that.. A class there is no mention of specials etc... In order to "go" for best alted in breed one must go through your gender specific class!

Now it's very late and I am very tired and of course I may be wrong again.. But this did come from my rule book!! :?

As far as I know, CNASA is not an ASCA affiliate. The CKC does offer Altered championships.

I found it... 13.4.2 "Points may not be carried from regular compitition judging to the Altered clas judging"

CNASA is our Nat'l CKC breed club. This was our Nat'l CKC specialty. Nothing to do with ASCA at all.
